Some of our most interesting and popular flavours have been thought up by customers. We have a Petition Flavours book in each shop (and online too!) where you can make up flavours: if you can get thirty signatures we’ll make your flavour! If you have a dream flavour in mind, the chances are that we can make it a reality (it’s also pretty likely that we already have!)
[We use ice cream to make our sundaes, indulgent shakes, and of course, our ice cream cakes.]
Ice cream sundaes make for an indulgent treat, with a base of a home-made brownie or a fresh Belgian waffle made on the spot. We put a scoop of ice cream on top, your choice of sauce on top of that (hot chocolate fudge or maple syrup), smother it all with cream and add a sprinkle of roasted nuts or chocolate strands to finish it off. For a banana split: minus the bakery product, add a banana and double the ice-cream! All of our sundaes are perfect for sharing, but you’d probably prefer one to yourself.
We’re always on the lookout for more recipes to experiment with… One baker worked on our brownies until they were happy, creating over twenty different versions before they were satisfied. We include the G&D's favourite ingredient of Daim bars in our cookies and it all tastes even better warmed up with a scoop of ice cream on the side!
The bakery is also the base for our famous ice cream sundaes, and our delicious Cookie Monster ice cream sandwich.
We’ve been making bagels ourselves using traditional methods since 2013; each bagel we serve in the café has been hand-shaped, proved, poached and baked on traditional wooden slats in the bakery in our St Aldates shop. Making proper bagels takes a long time, but we think they’re much better than the ones you can buy in supermarkets.
We make awesome pizza bagels and breakfast bagels as well as classics like salmon and cream cheese and some great G&D’s inventions..
Alongside bagels and ice cream we take our coffee super seriously. We work with local speciality roasters to create just the right blend for our espresso based drinks. Our filter coffee is a seasonally changing single origin that’s ground fresh every time. We’ve even recently bought ourselves a roaster and have been experimenting with roasting our own coffee beans… watch this space!
We love to find reasons to combine our favourite things - we make a wonderful affogato (a classic Italian dessert with espresso poured over a scoop of ice cream). Or there’s the Mad Cow (a true G&D’s invention!) which is an indulgent hot drink with ice cream steamed into our filter coffee.
If coffee’s not for you we’ve got a range of range of speciality teas to cover everyone’s preference from Earl Grey to Chamomile, not to mention ridiculously chocolatey Hot Chocolate (psst. You can add ice cream to the Hot Chocolate too- ask for a Holy Cow).
